Dr. Niyi Olanipekun ADEBISI

 PROFILE

I am a registered ‘Geoscientist’ with skills in teaching, research and general management. In the last two decades, I have been carrying out detailed technical analysis for assessing the properties of lateritic soils, Precambrian crystalline rocks, groundwater and other natural conditions prior to major construction projects. My expertise of working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) also covers application and interpretation of aerial photographs, satellite and radar imageries.

I possess a Ph.D. degree from the University of Ibadan with bias for Engineering Geology.  I have well over fifteen (15) years of experience in teaching and research at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State with proven supervisory and administrative capabilities. I have also involved in the development of new programmes and curriculum review. I have thirty-seven (37) scholarly publications in reputable scientific and engineering journals, including published conference proceedings both at home and abroad.

I have designed and conducted researches in the fields of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology, Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Application. I have briefly carried out researches in the areas of Petroleum and Economic Geology. In general, I have applied the knowledge of GEOLOGY to proffer solution to surface water, groundwater, engineering soils, and Earth works related problems. In most of my researches, I managed the analyses of geomaterials in terms of their elemental abundances, textural, mineralogical and geotechnical characteristics.  I also assessed oil-field waters in the Depot Belt of Niger Delta Southeastern Nigeria.

My project sites mostly are in the Crystalline Basement Complex and sedimentary basins of Nigeria. I undertook studies in collaboration with some senior, and world class academics within and outside Nigeria. I have been able to establish the soil, rock and groundwater conditions, to determine their properties, and to gather additional relevant knowledge about their relationship to Geology of Nigeria. In a particular case, I employed surface electrical resistivity surveying for insight into the profile development, as well as estimation of resistance to deformation for predicting the stability of Ago-Iwoye/Ishara flexible highway pavements.

My researches also extend to using GIS method, and remote sensing imageries to reveal geological control of terrain features. Latest parts of my studies focused on foundation soils in the creek area of Southwestern Nigeria. This was borne out of increasing housing density in the area underlain by saturated soils along the coastal area of Southwestern Nigeria. Till date, I have been able to define the safe working load required by the soils through the interpretation of the boring logs, SPTs, CPTs, and laboratory tests.

My experiences will is vital and useful for any organization, especially in the present climate of need for effective and efficient research. These could extend to professional services such as consultancy, investigation, planning, design and supervision in any organization in which I may be engaged – assuring that the elements affecting projects are adequately treated for success.
