Plant Science and Biotechnology, formerly called Botany option, was one of the three options introduced at the foundation of the Department of Biological Sciences in 1983. This programme has been graduating students since 1986/87 Session annually. The programme is designed for the award of degrees, at the end of the fourth year of study Plant Science option places strong emphasis on practical works both in the field and laboratory. This led to the introduction of compulsory field work during the Rain Semester of three hundred levels (300L) and during the first semester of the 400Level. In addition, there is an all-year-round project work and seminar on literature review, in Pure and Applied areas of Plant Science where students are given opportunity to select course areas, according to their interest.
